Report: Victim in police shooting was struck by ‘stray bullet’

Updated at 1:25 p.m. ET

Officials are saying a stray bullet from a gun is to blame for wounding a passenger at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport late Friday afternoon.

“A stray bullet did in fact strike a passenger in the airport,” Mayor Kasim Reed said Friday evening.

Reed did not specify which shot struck the passenger, who has been identified as Robert Channell. The case is under investigation, and no charges have been filed, he said.

The shooting happened shortly after 5 p.m. ET Friday at Concourse B, which is located near Terminal C.

Channell was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he is currently listed in fair condition, Hartsfield-Jackson officials said.

Atlanta Police also tweeted about the incident, saying that gunshots were fired during a “suspicious male,” who has been apprehended.
