A Royal Canadian Air Cadet official has been charged in a sex assault case involving a teenager who attended an event the cadet leader hosted in February at an Ottawa hotel.
The cadet leader, Dylan Wiley, 26, is accused of fondling a 17-year-old girl who was at the event.
Wiley, whose student status was revoked when an investigation into the incident was started, could not be reached for comment on Wednesday.
The boy’s parents have said their son never had sexual contact with Wiley, and that Wiley’s actions happened on Feb. 5.
The family has asked the press to refrain from contacting their son.
In a Facebook post, the parents thanked Ottawa police for their help in their investigation and said they will “always remain forever grateful to you for your professionalism and professionalism is remarkable.”
The accused recruit said in a local newspaper interview that he was innocent.
“They are overreacting,” he said. “The kid was 16 years old. It was the most unbelievable story.”
