Fauquier Ski Pass gives Denver’s Mile High Pass holders a season pass credit

If you like to ski, but can’t afford a season pass, is the Fauquier Ski Pass the answer to your pocketbook? Beginning this month, customers who purchase the Fauquier Pass — usually $900 a year, but up to $1,500 for a season pass for extra coin — at any of the 24 Mountain High stores will get a $400 credit toward the purchase of a season pass. The money also goes toward travel bonuses.

The Fauquier Ski Pass is promoted heavily by the Denver-based company Great Outdoors Colorado, which owns and operates the state’s ski areas, and it gives Mile High Pass holders points toward deals through the Points system used by Virgin America and Norwegian Cruise Line. In other words, this is a win-win for everyone.

There is a catch. Only those who register with Great Outdoors can obtain the $400 credit toward the purchase of a season pass. Mile High Passes cannot be used to buy tickets to any other Great Outdoors ski area — the Great Outdoors passes also cannot be used on the four ski resorts under Vail Resorts — including Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone. That means the credit won’t help those who are frequent skiers or snowboarders but are tied to a season pass to one of Vail’s other resorts.

Meanwhile, those who register with Visa or American Express — Visa and MasterCard can use the Mountain High system for their rewards — can use their points to purchase tickets, including an overnight lift ticket, to any Mountain High resort (or ski area under other Great Outdoors ownership) without a season pass. For Mountain High’s other four resorts, those rewards also can’t be used to buy lift tickets to any of the Great Outdoors resorts.
